This license has been provided annually by the Alberta Minister of Sustainable Resource Development since 1995. In 2007, a new agreement was signed between the Minister of Sustainable Resource Development and the Conservation Education W.I.S.E. Foundation, Alberta Hunter Education Instructors' Association and Hunting For Tomorrow. This coalition of groups is pleased to partner with WSF to raise money for the benefit of wildlife in Alberta. Arguably the premier fund raising forum of its type, the WSF Annual Convention presents an opportunity for those who are seeking the chance for the hunt of a lifetime, possibly even the record books. The buyers of this permit have experienced unprecedented success, with rams scoring 208 3/8 (Guinn Crousen - current World Record holder), 205 (Gary Hansen), 199 (Billy McClelland), 197 5/8 (Denis Dale). In January 2010 Alberta officially entered another ram scoring 206 3/8 B&C. These are representative of the rams that can be hunted in Alberta. The purchaser of this license has an extended season, including the entire month of November and the first two weeks in December 2012 to hunt for a record book ram. Sunday hunting is permitted across Alberta.

In addition to the trophy sheep seasons listing in the 2012 Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulation, this license is also valid:
From November 1 to December 15, 2012 in wildlife management units 302; 303; 306; 308; 400-406; 412-428; 430-437; 439-446
From December 1 to December 15 in wildlife management units 408 and 438
From November 1 to November 30 in that portion WMU 408 that is east of Highway 40

The buyer is responsible for the hiring of an outfitter, and a list of qualified outfitters is available from the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society. Proceeds from these license sales have been used for habitat acquisitions along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. License money has also gone into management and habitat improvement projects like the bighorn sheep and elk range assessments, and bighorn and elk transplants in Alberta. Various research projects have been supported as well as conservation education programs and programs focused at recruitment and retention of hunters. These license sales are making an important and significant contribution ensuring the future of wildlife in Alberta.
