MOUNTAIN GOAT WOOL – CEREMONIAL TAIL ROBE
Teri Rofkar
Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance (RMGA)
Donation: The traditional art of weaving mountain goat wool into ceremonial robes and blankets is being revived by Tlingit weavers. This bag has been woven in the traditional Tlingit style, without the use of a loom. Teri will weave an ancient pattern, with the mountain goat wool, and sea otter trip at the top. In her presentation at the symposium, she referenced the weaving as the technique used for over 9,000 years in the Americas. The Ceremonial Tail Robes are dance bags worn for potlatch parties and primarily worn by the men dancing.
Value: $5,000.
