The Wild Sheep Foundation and El Carmen have developed an agreement for the harvest of a desert bighorn sheep in the Sierra del Carmen of Coahuila, Mexico. The desert bighorn was extirpated from the state of Coahuila over 50 years ago. In 2000 El Carmen began an intensive restoration and management program to return desert bighorns to historic habitat in northern Coahuila, Mexico. Through this program, the management of good broodstock from Sonora, Mexico, including stock from Tiburon Island, has resulted in a sheep population with excellent genetics and quality. Our management goal is to offer one permit per year for outstanding trophy rams. Our first trophy ram was successfully harvested by Bernie Fiedeldey and scored 182. The revenue obtained from these permits will be used to fund future conservation and restoration of the desert bighorn sheep in Coahuila Mexico. The hunt will be challenging, Chihuahuan Desert arid mountain terrain, rough canyons, outcrops and rims in some of the most beautiful outdoors of northern Mexico. All guiding and outfitting is provided for this 15 day hunt for the season 2012-2013.
