With five huntable Rocky Mountain bighorn herds and 32 California bighorn herds, the choices facing Oregon bighorn sheep hunters are tough: uplifted rock faces or deep river canyons; high alpine wilderness or high desert mountain ranges; jet boating America’s deepest river gorge, wrangling horses, or backpacking. However, with the perseverance sheep hunters are known for, the benefits can be spectacular. Oregon bighorn sheep hunters have taken 55 Rocky Mountain bighorns scoring over 180 with 13 of those over 190, and two scoring over 200 B&C. Hunters have taken an amazing 132 California bighorn sheep over 170: 36 of those are over 175, and 4 incredible California bighorn from Oregon have scored over 180.
Any individual interested in hunting bighorn sheep in Oregon can bid on the 2014 Oregon Special Bighorn Auction Tag, even those who have previously held an Oregon Bighorn Sheep tag. For a minimum bid price of $25,000.00, the successful bidder will have a 100-day season running from August 16 – November 23, 2014. This includes all Rocky Mountain and California bighorn hunts with authorized tags in 2014. A 2014 Oregon Hunting License (resident or nonresident) is included if the successful bidder does not already have a license.
All funds generated from the special bighorn auction tag are statutorily dedicated specifically for bighorn sheep management and research in Oregon. Ten percent of the purchase price is donated to WSF. The continued leveraging strength provided by this program has allowed the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife to develop one of the most successful bighorn restoration programs in the country and participate as a leader in research and management programs that ensure wild bighorn sheep will continue to be an integral part of our heritage

A 5% buyer’s premium will be added to the final bid price of each special permit sold, unless prohibited by statute. Proceeds will be dedicated to WSF Conservation Initiatives. If the winner of this item refuses to pay the premiums required, the item shall be offered to the next highest bidder for the price he/she bid.
