Shikar Safaris is proud to donate a special Altay Argali hunt to WSF dates July 1, 2018 to September 30, 2018 or 2019 same period which will be decided mutually with the outfitter and lucky hunter.14-day hunt including one Altay Argali special tag in western Mongolia, Ulaan Bataar airport handling services, accommodation in gear camps in the hunting area, outfitting and full board services. Flights, trophy shipment additional trophies (Hangay Argali, Gobi Argali, Altay and Gobi ibex, Wapiti) are not included. Shikar Safaris has been working on Altay Argali conservation for 12 years in western Mongolia as they were under serious threat due to over hunting (up to 300 tags in a year in 1980s) and pasture management problems (over 70 million domestic livestock occupying argali territories). Shikar has been working on establishing community programs in Bayan Ulgi and Khovd provinces for last few years.. After years of hard work and efforts, in 2015 new areas were opened for the first time and our first guest Trevor Ahlberg of Texas harvested 66 5/8’’ Ram with total SCI score 263 3/8,” new world record Altay Argali.. Kevin Small of California followed him with 65” giant ram which was the cover of fall issue of WILD SHEEP Magazine and Jeff Demaske of Colorado during with a 61” also during the 2015 season.

We would like to take this conservation to the next level with the support of Wild Sheep Foundation and Wildlife Department of Mongolia. This year we are donating a very special Altay Argali hunt to Wild Sheep Foundation for the first time ever! This donation is very special and it is with the collaboration of Mongolian conservation - community programs and Shikar Safaris. This will be a pre-scouted hunt in the Western (Bayan Ulgi Kazak region) or Khovd areas. On this hunt our goal is to find a trophy of 58-62” or over, 240” -250” total score and more.. Kaan Karakaya has been to Mongolia 4 times this year and spent 53 days on the mountains where he scouted at least 6-7 big rams that were around 60” or larger. The population is doing much better, around 5,000-6,000 Argalis in these areas. Last year 12 licenses were issued and coming year there might be fewer tags even though the quality is very high and the trophies are around 10-14 years old. We indeed appreciate Wild Sheep foundation for supporting the biggest conservation project for the biggest sheep in the world, The Altay Argali!

The Argali Fund has been established for this project and the money will be used for this very important conservation project. We already spent around $500,000 last twelve years and have donated 11 motorcyles, 2 four-wheel drive vehicles, uniforms, salaries and equipment for 150 game guards, binos, spotting scopes, several tons of hay and salt for the sheep in the winter, and more. It is time for you to help to put the sheep back on the mountain.
