The Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn and WSF continue our cooperative efforts to offer the Nevada Nelson Bighorn Sheep Tag for the 2020 “Sheep Show”. Nevada has 314 mountain ranges, more than any other lower 48 state, and more bighorn sheep that occupy them! This vast and rugged canvas known as the Great Basin is naturally suited to harbor wild sheep. Through the vision of wildlife biologists and passionate support from sportsmen, bighorn sheep restoration efforts have resulted in the 2020 statewide estimate of over 10,000 desert bighorn sheep! The 2020 Nelson Desert Bighorn Heritage Tag is open to all desert bighorn sheep hunt units (about 50 units) except for unit(s) where the 2019 Heritage Tag harvest occurred. The season dates for most units are August 1 - December 31, 2020 (4 units have restricted access to DOD lands, season date restrictions, and special requirements). The 2017 desert bighorn hunt season was another record setting year with 300 rams harvested and 21 rams 170+ B&C from 12 different hunt areas. Standard tag eligibility provisions do not apply to this tag. Nevada’s bighorn sheep restoration program is supported in large part by the auction of this Heritage desert bighorn sheep tag.
